Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons offered a passionate reaction to rumors about Shannon Sharpe’s new media contract for those who believe he should stop his podcast.
Micah Parsons’ involvement in the media – whether that be his social media trolling or his in-season podcast – is no surprise for any Dallas Cowboys or NFL fans.
The star defensive end is one of many active athletes who have gotten involved in media during their playing career. Others across sports include Jason and Travis Kelce, LeBron James, Paul George and Draymond Green to name a few.
Shannon Sharpe, the Hall of Fame tight end who has found a home on ESPN alongside Stephen A. Smith, is in the game too.
He is the host of the Club Shay Shay podcast, which is rumored to be in line for a massive media contract because of the show’s success.
According to Front Office Sports, Sharpe is expected to sign a new deal worth up to $100 million once his current contract with Colin Cowherd’s The Volume network expires.
Parsons – as he typically does – jumped to social media to offer a reaction and nudge to his critics who say he should focus on his work on the field.
Whether its gripes about him posting so much or complaints about his podcast being active during the regular season … Micah has heard it all.
But he’s also explaining why he won’t stop.
“You’ll be amazed about how many former players wish they got active in media before they retired, and that’s coming from legends of the game!” Parsons said.
“Honestly motivates me to keep going!”
Micah is also in line for a new deal with the Dallas Cowboys, of course. Once that extension in inevitably signed, Parsons will be set financially for the rest of his playing career.
But in light of Sharpe’s success, Micah views himself as being the next superstar player to turn into a media mogul … whether that comes before or after he’s done playing.
We know he has the personality to make it happen, and there is serious money to be made out there if he is successful.
Parsons podcast, The Edge with Micah Parsons, is in partnership with Bleacher Report and has had two successful seasons after debuting in 2023. He has welcomed guests like Derrick Henry, Bijan Robinson and C.J. Stroud.
It is also no secret that throughout this involvement in the media, Micah has still maintained his performance on the field, being widely regarded as one of the best defensive players in football.
Through four seasons, Parsons has made 52.5 sacks and 256 total tackles, which is on pace for a Hall of Fame resume when he hangs them up.
He’s also on pace to make a serious impression on the football media landscape as he grows in popularity behind the mic.
Parsons’ ongoing contract negotiations and increased leadership responsibility this season could effect things moving forward, but if Micah keeps things up like he has, there won’t be much distraction that would cause him to stop.
