The Houston Texans closed the trade deadline on Tuesday by sending defensive tackle Khalil Davis to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2026 seventh-round pick, a league source said.
In 26 career games, Davis posted 23 solo tackles and 43 total tackles, including three sacks.
Davis is a quality rotational run-stopping defensive tackle who, since joining the Texans in 2023, posted an average tackle depth of 1.7 yards in both seasons, according to Sports Info Solutions. Despite playing only 172 snaps this season, he made his moments count. With just nine combined tackles on the year, Davis recorded four tackles for loss with an additional two QB hits registered.

Davis joins a 49ers squad with a thinned defensive line after Javon Hargrave’s triceps tear, which will keep him out of action for at least the rest of the regular season. Other defensive tackles have played with nagging injuries, including Maliek Collins, Jordan Elliott and Kevin Givens. Meanwhile, Yetur Gross-Matos, who’s lined up at both defensive end and defensive tackle, is currently on injured reserve with a knee issue.
Davis, a fourth-year journeyman with a patchy resume, now finds himself with his sixth organization.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Davis in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft before waiving him in October 2021. The Indianapolis Colts then acquired him via waivers before waiving him a few weeks later.
He signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad in November 2021 before signing to the Buccaneers and Los Angeles Rams practice squads in 2022. The Texans then signed Davis as a free agent in August 2023, where he was activated from the practice squad on Sept. 30 before re-signing with the team in March. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2025.
