Cubs Trade Idea Replaces Matt Shaw With Disgruntled $313 Million Red Sox Slugger Read more at:

There could be a few significant moves around Major League Baseball over the next few months. With multiple players frustrated with their current roles, the Chicago Cubs could benefit from it. After sending Matt Shaw to Triple-A, trading for a third baseman seems to be something the Cubs should be interested in doing.

Giving up on Shaw wouldn’t be the right decision, but this is a team built to win the National League Central, and not having him up and producing the way he did when he was up isn’t going to accomplish that. There potentially happens to be a third baseman available in Rafael Devers of the Boston Red Sox, who has noted multiple times how upset he is with how the Red Sox have handled their third base situation.

Because of that, Andrew Wright of Newsweek proposed the idea of trading for him, adding that while it might be a far-fetched idea, it’s something to keep an eye on in Boston. “While this one is a little far-fetched, it is well known that Devers grew extremely frustrated with the Red Sox during the Bregman sweepstakes.

“It is a hefty contract to take on and it is unlikely Boston would ever think about trading Devers, but it couldn’t hurt to make a call to the Red Sox and see what it would take to get one of the game’s best hitters to Wrigley Field,” Wright wrote. The Red Sox have also struggled to get off to a good start this season. It’s tough to get a feel for where the team stands, but they’re currently 9-10 and already two games out in the American League East. If that deficit becomes any bigger heading into the deadline, the Red Sox might not have any other choice but to move on from some of their top players.
