Hunter Dobbins reportedly will be recalled prior to the series-opening matchup with the Chicago White Sox, according to Christopher Smith of MassLive. Red Sox manager Alex Cora previously mentioned he could make another appearance. MassLive’s Chris Cotillo shared the report, as well.
Dobbins, 25, was superb in his major league debut on April 6, earning a win after allowing two runs in five innings against the St. Louis Cardinals at Fenway Park. Cora wanted to give the rest of the rotation proper rest before the reintroduction of Brayan Bello, which is now possible thanks to the hard-throwing right-hander.
Dobbins is expected to be followed by Garrett Crochet, Tanner Houck and Walker Buehler. Bello would be lined up to pitch in the series opener against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday.
The Red Sox will need to option a pitcher in order to make room for Dobbins. Michael Fulmer and Josh Winckowski are the two likeliest candidates.
