White Sox Shake Things Up With Unexpected Promotion

After coming off one of the worst seasons in major league baseball history, the White Sox were never expected to compete in 2025. However, the White Sox have been playing much better baseball than last year despite their record, as they just took two out of three from the Boston Red Sox.

Most of the attention will be on the farm system, as the hope is that some of the big names in the minor leagues will help the major league team compete in the near future, as the White Sox have six top-100 prospects on the MLB Pipeline list.

Now, one of those top-100 prospects will be joining the team in Chicago in a shocking move. According to Scott Merkin, the White Sox are calling up one of their top catching prospects, Edgar Quero.

While Quero was off to a great start in AAA Charlotte, a call-up to the big leagues this early into the season wasn’t expected, as Quero just turned 22 years old. However, that isn’t much of a concern to the White Sox as they are clearly impressed with his play.

So far in AAA, Quero is hitting .333 with a .444 OBP and one homer through 51 at-bats. He has added four RBIs and has 11 walks compared to 14 strikeouts, which is a very solid ratio.

With this promotion, both players acquired in the Lucas Giolito to the Angels trade will have made their major-league debut, as Ky Bush got a few starts in last season.

This move now allows Kyle Teel, who many thought would be the first catcher called up to the major leagues between the two, to get most of the catching reps in at AAA. Hopefully Teel follows Quero to the big leagues soon, as the White Sox can use as many solid hitters as possible in their lineup.

Hopefully Quero can inject some life into the White Sox lineup, as they have had a tough time scoring runs in most games this season. Quero will likely take the spot of Omar Narvaez, unless the White Sox have another move in mind, as Korey Lee is due to come off the IL any day now.
