BRAKING NEWS: Patriots to sign guard Tyrese Robinson off Vikings practice squad, per report

With all eyes on the NFL trade deadline, the New England Patriots have decided to add to their roster. They are using a different method of talent acquisition, however.

The Patriots are planning to sign guard Tyrese Robinson off the Minnesota Vikings practice squad, as first reported by Mike Reiss of ESPN.

Robinson, 25, was a 38-game starter at the University of Oklahoma before making the jump to the NFL in 2022. Despite his experience and ability to play both guard and tackle, the 6-foot-3, 317-pounder did not hear his name called in the draft. Instead, he joined the Washington Commanders as a rookie free agent.

Robinson spent just three months in Washington before getting released, and went on to join the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad later that year. He was cut again in August 2023 and spent his entire sophomore season as a free agent before getting picked up by the Vikings earlier this year.

He was released once more ahead of roster cutdown day, but signed with the Minnesota practice squad. He spent the first nine weeks of the season there.

In total, Robinson has not yet seen any action in an NFL game outside of preseason. Now, he will bolster the depth along the New England interior O-line.

With the roster at a full 53 players entering Tuesday, a follow-up move will be necessary. It could come via another player getting released, or through a trade ahead of the 4 p.m. ET deadline.
