Count television personality Jason McIntyre among the doubters and the haters when it comes to the Kansas City Chiefs. He pretty much alluded to the fact while on Colin Cowherd’s show on Friday. Despite reaching the Super Bowl three years in a row, and winning two titles, McIntyre does not believe Andy Reid’s crew is going to make the playoffs in 2025.
“I don’t think the Kansas City Chiefs are a playoff team next year,” McIntyre said. “I’m making the call here, it’s mid April before the draft: I don’t think the Kansas City Chiefs are a playoff team next year.” On what basis is McIntyre making this statement, The Chiefs have clearly been the best team in the AFC the past five years and have won two Super Bowls. As long as they have Patrick Mahomes at the quarterback position, that is going to remain a constant.
The Chiefs will not only win more than any other team in the AFC this season, they will remain the best team in the conference until someone knocks them from their perch. Their roster has taken a hit this offseason. It is true the offensive line was exposed in the Super Bowl and Mahomes appeared to be a mere mortal as he was sacked more often than he is used to. However, the Chiefs have a bevy of draft choices to restock their team.
McIntyre also believes with the amount of playoff football the Chiefs have played over the years, he believes they are tired, physically and mentally. “You look at the last three years, Kansas City has played 10 playoff games, that’s more than half another season,” McIntyre said. “We see this in the NBA all the time, you make a run to the finals two, three years in a row, that following year you’re drained.”
The Chiefs have won nine straight divisional titles. This year will make 10. There is no one in their division to challenge them. The AFC route to the Super Bowl will once again go through Kansas City.
