CHICAGO — As the Red Sox begin their second road trip of the season in Chicago on Friday night, they’ll welcome a newcomer to the starting lineup in the No. 8 spot.

Catcher Blake Sabol, who was called up earlier in the week to take Connor Wong’s roster spot after Wong suffered a pinky fracture Monday night, will get his first start in a Red Sox uniform as Boston begins a three-game set against the 2-10 White Sox. Carlos Narváez had started the last three days in Wong’s place.

Sabol, went hitless in two late game at-bats on the homestand, hit .250 (5-for-20) with two doubles in six games for the WooSox before being called up. In 123 games over three big league seasons, he’s a .241 hitter with 13 homers, 45 RBIs and a .701 OPS.

Elsewhere in the lineup, manager Alex Cora is sticking with Triston Casas (.170 average, .512 OPS in 13 games) in the cleanup spot ahead of Trevor Story in the No. 5 spot. Kristian Campbell is hitting seventh and Ceddanne Rafaela is in the No. 9 hole.

On the mound, lefty Sean Newcomb will make his third start of the season for Boston. Ex-Red Sox prospect Chase Meidroth, who was called up for his major league debut Friday, is hitting seventh and playing second base for Chicago. He was one of four prospects the Red Sox sent to the ChiSox in the Garrett Crochet blockbuster in December.

First pitch is at 6:40 p.m. ET.
