FRISCO – It was in August of 2024 when the Dallas Cowboys and the Minnesota Vikings agreed a “change of scenery” trade of cornerbacks. The Cowboys traded away Nahshon Wright, a third-round pick in 2021, to the Vikings. Dallas got back in exchange Andrew Booth Jr., a second rounder from 2022. Who won the trade?
Nobody. The Vikings recently released Wright after he spent all of last season on Minnesota’s practice squad. He had signed a reserve/future contract in January, which secured him to their roster for the upcoming season if they chose to re-sign him. But now he’s out … and just before anybody wonders if the Cowboys should take another shot here …
Wright has signed with the Chicago Bears, where he gets a chance to once again work under Al Harris, who’d been his position coach in Dallas. Wright, 26, comes with great size for a corner at 6-4 and 200 … dimensions that motivated Wright to compare himself favorably with All-Pro Richard Sherman.
But over his first three seasons in the league, he managed to register just 37 tackles. Booth, 24, spent the season with the Cowboys and finished with 2024 with 15 tackles in just seven games played. … but with some late-season starts to his credit. Booth graded out poorly in the eyes of some as he was ranked near the bottom of all cornerbacks in the NFL last season with a 35.6 PFF grade (153rd out of 156 who played 100+ snaps).
We saw some promise with the idea of scooping Wright off the market. After all, Trevon Diggs’ return from injury might stretch until the midway point of the season, and newcomer Kaiir Elam (the former first-rounder recently trade-dumped here from Buffalo) is unproven.
The team is still searching for a reliable outside corner opposite of DaRon Bland … and maybe the NFL Draft helps there. But the Wright reboot? He’ll try to make it happen in Chicago.
