Cubs Predicted To Land $15.5 Million Pitcher In Blockbuster Trade

The Chicago Cubs are seemingly the top team in the National League Central following a plethora of offseason additions, including a trade for Kyle Tucker. Chicago could look to boost its roster by continuing to make big moves this season. One place the Cubs could look to upgrade is their pitching rotation.

Jon Conahan of Athlon Sports recently predicted the Cubs could make a shocking interdivision trade with the Milwaukee Brewers to acquire Brewers ace Freddy Peralta. “In a relatively below-average NL Central, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Milwaukee at the top of the standings again,” Conahan wrote. “The Chicago Cubs are the Brewers’ most significant threat, and Chicago should feel comfortable taking over the throne. Chicago is a much better team on paper, and if things go as planned, they should win the division. And that could be a good thing for more reasons than one.

“While a trade with the Brewers is always unlikely, the Cubs having one of the top farm systems in MLB makes anything possible. If the Brewers continue to struggle and fall out of playoff contention, Freddy Peralta could be an excellent addition to this rotation.” This could be a huge move for the Cubs, but it’s unclear if the Brewers would consider a deal like this. Milwaukee is notorious for developing pitchers, so a trade of Peralta might make sense.

The Brewers have already lost manager Craig Counsell to the Cubs, but they could potentially lose Peralta to them, too, if the trade package is right.
