Cubs President Jed Hoyer Provides Kyle Tucker Update

The Chicago Cubs are in the midst of one of their most important seasons in recent memory. With President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer and star outfielder Kyle Tucker in contract years, the time is now for the Cubs to make a run at the National League Central and perhaps beyond, regardless of whether they are ready for the jump or not.

However, it will all be for naught if Hoyer cannot lock up Tucker to a long-term extension this offseason. Fans will have a tough time absorbing the losses of Isaac Paredes, Cam Smith, and maybe one day Hayden Wesneski as they now represent the Houston Astros.

Hoyer will face a barrage of Tucker-related questions this summer, and the latest installment provided the Cubs faithful with a little more insight. Here’s what Hoyer told reporters, via Marquee Sports Network: “Any conversations we have with him, we’ll keep internal,” Hoyer said. “… It’s a process. I’m excited. I think he’ll learn what Wrigley’s all about over the next few months.”

“He’s the kind of player you want to build a lineup around.” Jed Hoyer on Kyle Tucker. pic.twitter.com/M78oGWlF3c — Marquee Sports Network (@WatchMarquee) April 4, 2025 The allure of Wrigley Field is undeniable. The second-oldest Big League stadium is littered with baseball nostalgia, and stepping into the concourse feels as close to baseball heaven as anywhere.

Tucker also has the chance to shine brighter than he ever did in Houston despite their continuous postseason success. Chicago’s lineup includes the electrifying Pete Crow-Armstrong, the reliable Dansby Swanson, and the intriguing rookie Matt Shaw. But none of these names will overshadow Tucker like his previous teammates, Jose Altuve, Yordan Álvarez, and Alex Bregman once did in Houston.

Tucker’s deal should command at least $450 million, possibly delving deep into the $500s. Maybe this campaign with the Cubs will convince him that his offseason reluctance to sign a contract was a mistake. Or, Hoyer will once again falter with a big-name free agent.
