Harold Fannin of Bowling Green was on Up & Adams this week and told Kay Adams he has a series of pre-draft visits coming up and one of them is with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he would take over for Travis Kelce, who in anticipated to retire at the end of this season. Fannin, who comes from Bowling Green, led the MAC and the nation with 111 catches for 1,555 yards and 10 touchdowns. His figures for receptions and yards set new marks for tight ends in the FBS for a single season.
Fannin is the type of working man’s tight end that could earn a living in the NFL for a lot of years. He is a good in-line blocker and is dynamic in pass patterns. He is not the tallest, which will keep him toward the middle of day three, but whoever takes him will be getting a bargain. He is coach Andy Reid’s type of player. He is undersized, has some speed and can get open.
Kelce is not going to be easy to replace and Fannin, as good as he might be will never make anyone forget about him. However, Fannin could definitely fit in and serve as a good safety valve for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs happen to like backup tight end Noah Gray who is working on a three-year extension he signed before the 2024 season. He might have an inside track for the starting job, but the Chiefs go to two tight-end sets and Fannin would compliment Gray to that regard. Gray is also a formidable pass catcher, but has more size than Fannin possesses.
If Fannin were to be drafted by the Chiefs he would certainly learn a lot playing behind Kelce and Gray.
