Cubs Trade Idea Sends $85 Million Slugger to Braves Amid Profar News Read more at:

There were rumors in the offseason that the Chicago Cubs could trade Seiya Suzuki. Nothing came to light during the winter months, but if the Cubs still want to move on from him and his relatively expensive contract, which spans through 2026, there’s a scenario where they could deal him.

With the issues the Atlanta Braves are facing, he should be at the top of their priority list if Chicago is willing to move on from him. In 10 games during the 2025 campaign, Suzuki has played incredible baseball, slashing .256/.327/.581. He leads the league in strikeouts, but has a 146 OPS+.

Mark Bowman of MLB.com revealed that the Braves expect Ronald Acuña Jr. back in May, but with Jurickson Profar suspended, Atlanta could use some help now. “Now we know the Braves added Fairchild because they knew Profar would be suspended until through June. Fairchild, Kelenic, De La Cruz and Harris will be Atlanta’s outfielders for now,” Bowman wrote. “Verdugo could soon become an option and Acuña will likely return at some point in May.”

The Cubs don’t have much reason to move on from Suzuki over the next few weeks. A trade closer to the deadline makes more sense for both sides. However, if the Cubs continue to play the way they have, currently 7-4 overall and in first place in the NL Central, it’d be questionable to trade their three-hitter.

Still, with the Cubs showing over the past few years that they want to save money, anything is possible, and the Braves would be the team that makes the most sense for him right now.
