49ers land help in secondary in first round of latest mock draft from Pro Football Network

The start of the offseason and the free agency period didn’t provide many answers for what the San Francisco 49ers could do in the 2025 edition of the NFL draft. Instead, the 49ers’ opening moves of the offseason might have provided more questions than answers. With the draft quickly approaching, multiple position groups could be in play for the 49ers in the first round of the draft.

Different mock drafts have the 49ers all over the board, with offensive linemen, edge rushers and secondary players being mocked at No. 11.

However, draft month is officially here, and mock drafts are beginning to drop predictions for what John Lynch and Kyle Shanhan could do when the 49ers hit the clock in the first round on April 24.

In the latest mock draft from Pro Football Network, the 49ers landed help in the secondary with the No. 11 overall selection. Reese Decker of Pro Football Network inked Texas Longhorns corner Jahdae Barron to the 49ers in the first round of his latest mock draft. According to Decker, Barron could make a quick impact as a rookie at multiple positions in the secondary for the 49ers.

The 2024 Jim Thorpe Award winner is a seasoned veteran with 57 career games under his belt, including 38 starts for the Longhorns. A true lockdown defender, he racked up 11 pass breakups and five interceptions in his final season while also proving to be a strong and reliable tackler.

Versatility is a major selling point — he can step in immediately and make an impact at nickel, corner, or safety, filling multiple roles in the San Francisco 49ers’ defense.

Barron played five seasons at Texas, racking up 136 total tackles, eight interceptions, two sacks, a forced fumble and two touchdowns over 57 games in Austin.

In his final season with the Longhorns, Barron won the Jim Thorpe Award for the nation’s top defensive back along with being named a consensus All-American.

The first round of the NFL draft is set to begin on April 24 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
