Detroit Tigers’ Gleyber Torres was placed on a 10-day injured list because of a left oblique strain on Monday, and fans have a lot to say. Torres played for the New York Yankees from 2018-2024 before leaving for the Tigers in 2025. Yankees fans have called out Torres over the years for being lazy, and the Yankees even benched him for having a “lack of hustle”.
In an X post announcing the news of Torres’ injury, it looks like Tigers and Yankees alike are unhappy with his performance. “He wouldn’t have done anything anyways,” said one user. “Guess Yankees dodged a bullet,” said another.
“The most Gleyber Torres moment to ever happen. Hits a home run…and gets hurt on the same play,” said one X post. Torres signed a $15 million one-year contract with the Tigers in December 2024. “To be honest, I don’t know what’s going on there. I was believing everything was good, but I think not,” Torres said when asked to comment on his move between teams on the Tiger’s official website, adding that he came to the Tigers to help them “go to the World Series,” which the Tigers have not appeared in since 2012.
Torres appeared in the 2024 World Series with the Yankees. To replace Torres after his injury, the Tigers brought in Justyn-Henry Malloy from Triple-A Toledo. The injury will prevent Torres from facing off against his former team when the Tigers face the Yankees April 7-9.
The last time Torres found himself on the injured list was in 2021 while with the Yankees, so this is not the best start to the season for the second baseman.
