NEW YORK — The Yankees have hit more home runs over their first four games this season than any other team in MLB history.
Shortstop Anthony Volpe’s solo shot to deep left field off Diamondbacks ace Corbin Burnes in the fourth inning on Tuesday night was the Yankees’ 17th homer of the year thus far, breaking a tie with the 2006 Tigers.
The Yankees went on to lose Tuesday night’s game to Arizona, but Ben Rice did hit a home run in the ninth inning, the Yankees’ 18th blast of the season thus far.
Top prospect Jasson Domínguez also went yard earlier in the game as well, his first home run at Yankee Stadium since Sept. 8, 2023.
This comes after the Yankees blasted a franchise-record nine long balls in Saturday’s 20-9 shellacking of the Brewers, a barrage that brought all kinds of attention to the new-look “torpedo” bats that some of the Yankees, like Volpe, are using.
The Yankees’ 41 runs so far this season is the second-most runs scored through the first four games of a campaign in franchise history. The only time the Yankees have scored more to begin a year is 1950 when they put up 48 runs.
Only six other MLB teams have scored 41-plus runs through the first four games of a season: Milwaukee in 1978 (49), the Yankees in 1950 (48), the Cubs in 1954 (45), Detroit in 1901 (45), the Dodgers in 2019 (42) and the White Sox in 1951 (41).
