Braves start Nick Allen at shortstop in second game of season against Padres

Allen fills in for Arcia, while the rest of the lineup remains the same.

The Atlanta Braves made one change to the lineup — albeit a pretty notable one — for the second game of the season against the Padres, swapping in Nick Allen for Orlando Arcia to play shortstop.

The rest of the lineup remains the same for Atlanta, who scored four runs on Thursday but ran into some bad luck at the warning track and saw an astounding 195 pitches over nine innings.

Here’s a look at the lineup for the Braves:

Allen, who the Braves acquired in November from the Oakland/Sacramento/Vegas Athletics, enjoyed a good spring offensively and can really glove it at short. He’s struggled at the major league level with a .209/.254/.283 slash line in 760 plate appearances, although he is 4-for-7 in a very small sample against Padres ace Dylan Cease, which may have influenced Brian Snitker’s decision.

The Padres shuffled the bottom half of their lineup with righty Reynaldo Lopez set to take the mound after they faced lefty Chris Sale on Thursday. Old friend Jason Heyward is batting 8th and starting in left field.

Here’s how the Padres are looking:

First pitch at Petco Park is 9:40 p.m. ET.
