The San Francisco 49ers are in the middle of working on a new contract extension for star quarterback Brock Purdy. While it would be surprising if a new deal did not get done, there have been a lot of rumors and even more speculation about the situation. Lately, trade ideas have been running rampant involving Purdy. There has been no concrete reporting to warrant those trade ideas, but the noise has grown deafening.
Purdy took over as the 49ers’ starting quarterback as a rookie during the 2022 season. He had been drafted as “Mr. Irrelevant” with the last pick of the 2022 NFL draft. Since then, he has become a star and is looking for big-time money in his next deal with San Francisco. During the 2024 NFL season, Purdy threw for 3,864 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He also completed 65.9% of his passes.
According to a report from NFL insider Mike Garafolo, Purdy is looking for money close to what Dak Prescott received from the Dallas Cowboys. He believes that the 25-year-old quarterback wants close to $60 million per year.
With all of those noise surrounding Purdy, the 49ers did go out and sign Mac Jones in NFL free agency. Now, they’re also being projected to make another quarterback move. Josh Liskiewitz of Pro Football Focus made a prediction in his mock draft that San Francisco would add Indiana quarterback Kurtis Rourke in the sixth round of the upcoming draft.
Rourke helped lead the Hoosiers to the College Football Playoff during the 2024 season. He put up big numbers, completing 69.4% of his pass attempts for 3,042 yards, 29 touchdowns, and five interceptions.
