HOT SEARCH: The Falcons’ social media team is on a war path to troll the Cowboys

Atlanta’s social media team certainly talked the talk after a stellar performance from the Falcons Sunday afternoon.

The Atlanta Falcons’ social media team basked in the national attention generated by taking down America’s team Sunday evening, penning a series of inflammatory posts of X targeted at the Dallas Cowboys and their fanbase.

After recovering a decisive on-side kick, the team’s Twitter account tweeted out “America’s Team,” the first letter of which was replaced with a red emoji “A” to represent Atlanta, and a link to a recap of the 27-21 victory from Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Minutes later, the Falcons posted a video of noted Cowboys fan Post Malone dancing with an Atlanta logo overlayed on the American rapper and an image of the final score added to the bottom of the video.

The Falcons saved their best, or at least most viral, celebratory barb for last, posting a picture of a downtrodden New York Yankees fan with the caption, “Tough week to be a Yankees fan.” The post references the bandwagon reputation of both Yankees and Cowboys fans — the Bronx Bombers suffered a five-game defeat in the 2024 World Series earlier this week — attracting 113,000 likes and over 4.1 million total impressions.

Sunday’s win continued a strong start to the season for the Falcons, improving their record to 6-3 while extending their lead to 1.5 games in the NFC South. Dallas took an early lead via Brandon Aubrey’s 34-yard field goal, but Kirk Cousins quickly responded with a nine-yard touchdown pass to Drake London to kickstart another tremendous afternoon for the first-year Atlanta player — he ultimately finished 19 of 24 through the air for 222 yards and three passing touchdowns.

Tyler Allgeier gave the Falcons a commanding 27-13 lead early in the fourth quarter with a rushing score, and while the Cowboys notched a consolation touchdown in the final 90 seconds, a recovered onside kick and three kneels iced Atlanta’s fourth win in five games.

While Atlanta’s social media team proved the most prolific, several NFL teams quickly took to X for some good-natured ribbing after pulling off big wins during the Week 9 slate.

The Bills made a pair of posts at the expense of Miami after completing a season sweep over the Dolphins, creating a graphic that read Miami Twice, a pun on the television show Miami Vice with the city’s distinct Art Deco font and pastel colorway, before quote posting disparaging remarks that ‘Fins tight end Jonnu Smith made about the city of Buffalo with a shrugging emoji.

The Detroit Lions celebrated their 24-14 victory over NFC North rivals Green Bay with a picture of safety Kerby Joseph smiling, captioned “cheesin'” in a reference to Green Bay’s famous “Cheesehead” fandom. Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders moved to 7-2 with their own divisional victory over the New York Giants, punctuating their 27-22 win in the Big Apple with a post that read “How ’bout them apples.”
