Taylor Swift Had Clear Preference on Travis Kelce’s Retirement Decision: Report

Just a few days after a heartbreaking Super Bowl loss, Travis Kelce admitted he was considering retirement.

The Kansas City Chiefs star tight end thought about his future for two weeks before ultimately deciding to come back to play at least another season. “I still feel like I could play it at a high level and possibly at a higher level than I did last year,” he said late last month.

“I don’t think it was my best outing. I let my guys down in a lot more moments than I helped them, especially if you look at my track record and how I’ve been in years past. I want to give it a good run. I’ve got a bad taste in my mouth on how I ended the year and how well I was playing and how accountable I was for the people around me. I love so many people in Kansas City, both in that facility and in the community.”

Before he made his decision to return to the Chiefs for the 2025 campaign, though, Kelce reportedly discussed the decision with girlfriend and billionaire musician Taylor Swift, “as a couple.” According to a new report from Page Six, Swift was “definitely in favor” of Kelce playing next season.

“She didn’t want Travis to retire,” a source told Page Six. “She wanted him to go out on a high note.”

Kelce made the ultimate call, but the added input from Swift certainly didn’t make it more difficult to decide to come back for another season. While he recorded a career low in receiving yards during the 2024 season, Kelce managed to haul in 97 receptions to lead the team.

He became just the 15th player in NFL history with at least 1,000 receptions and currently ranks third among tight ends in career receptions.
