The Los Angeles Dodgers have a rotation filled with high-quality arms, and with so many MLB teams that could use young talent, Los Angeles may consider moving off a former top prospect in the organization.
In a potential trade that should be considered this season, the Dodgers would send away 25-year-old Bobby Miller to the Baltimore Orioles in return for former All-Star outfielder Cedric Mullins.
Baltimore has a strong young core…
With players like Colton Cowser and Heston Kjerstad ready for the majors right now and signing Tyler O’Neill this offseason, the Orioles are in a good spot to try to bolster their rotation depth.
The Orioles also lost ace Corbin Burnes this offseason and didn’t do much to replace that production.
The Dodgers’ last roster spot is coming down to who will potentially take center field between James Outman and Andy Pages, both of whom have flaws.
Mullins is a plus defender but has been slipping at the plate, and the Dodgers would give him a chance to revitalize his hitting prowess.
In 2021, Mullins hit 30 home runs and stole 30 bases.
Once Shohei Ohtani returns to the mound, and the reports say the return timeline is early to mid-May, the Dodgers rotation will be full, with Dustin May, Tony Gonsolin, and Clayton Kershaw likely as the next pitchers up.
Miller struck out 119 batters in his rookie campaign over 124.1 innings and recorded a 3.76 ERA. It seems as if Miller could also use a change of scenery, as there is virtually no room in the Dodgers rotation.
He still has a lively arm and a fastball that reaches nearly 100 MPH. While his command and location of pitches can be issues, they are fixable mechanically.
The trade works out for both sides and could be done before Opening Day or in the early stages of the MLB season.
