Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes A ‘Loser’ In Free Agency

The Kansas City Chiefs knew that the offensive line would be a big point of emphasis this offseason after the Super Bowl decable, but the line seems to have gotten a little more uncertain. The Chiefs moved on from Joe Thuney, who is now in Chicago, and the franchise signed Jaylon Moore to play left tackle, but there is still a hole at guard.

It isn’t known who will shift inside, but there are reports that maybe rookie Kingsley Suamataia could get the first crack at it. Either way, we aren’t sure the line has gotten better. And NFL.com agrees, naming Patrick Mahomes as one of the losers of free agency. “The Chiefs slapped the franchise tag on right guard Trey Smith to keep him in house while trading left guard Joe Thuney to Chicago,” NFL.com writes. “Kansas City is also signing former 49ers offensive tackle Jaylon Moore, who currently seems the most likely candidate to take over the left tackle job that became such a headache for the Chiefs last season. But here’s the problem for Mahomes: the left side remains a huge uncertainty. Moore has been a backup behind Trent Williams for the last four years in San Francisco, which means there’s no guarantee he can be an effective option.”

The good news is that Trey Smith will stay in 2025 after being franchise-tagged, but more still needs to be done.

Several media outlets have the Chiefs drafting a tackle in the first round, with Oregon’s Josh Conerly Jr. seeing his name thrown up as a potential option.
