NORTH PORT, Fla (WRBL) — Ronald Acuña Jr. is set to return to the Braves lineup soon, following a second stint on the injured-list with an ACL tear.
Back in 2021, Acuña tore his right ACL tracking down a fly ball in a regular season game against Miami. This would keep Acuña out for the remainder of 2021, and even into 2022.
But, in 2023 Acuña would bounce back in a big way. Putting up a 41 homer season, along with 73 stolen bases. That mark has never been reached. But it doesn’t include the fact that Acuña also led the league in runs scored, hits, on-base-percentage, and total bases. Acuña was rightfully awarded the National League MVP, as well as being named an All-Star that season.
Fast forward to 2025, and Acuña is hoping to have a similar comeback, following the tear of his left ACL while attempting to steal a base in May of 2024.
He spoke with WRBL on his recovery, and what returning alongside his teammates for a chance at the World Series would mean to him personally. Though Acuña was a member of the 2021 World Series team, he has never participated in a World Series due to his injuries.
Acuña’s biggest goal for the 2025 season is the same goal he had for the 2024 season, “stay healthy”. Considering Atlanta’s misfortune across the entire roster with injuries throughout 2024, most of the roster is focusing on doing just that.
