New England Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski has a strong case as the best tight end in NFL history, but it sounds like he thinks Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce has a claim for that title, too.
Ahead of last month’s Super Bowl showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, Rob Gronkowski – who currently serves as an analyst for Fox – had a pretty clear message for Travis Kelce.
While Gronkowski is confident in his own legacy, he admits that he is starting to change his mind.
“Right now, I believe I’m the greatest tight end to ever play the game of football,” Gronkowski said ahead of the Super Bowl via A to Z Sports. “But after watching that guy on the Chiefs over the last few years and after sitting down with him, I’m starting to change my mind, big time.”
As for Kelce, he claims he is not worrying too much about individual accolades.
“You know, early on, there was a lot of individual success and accolades that I wanted when I was younger,” Kelce said.
“What I want my legacy to be is how great of a teammate was, How awesome was he in the community of Kansas City, and did he make the game in the NFL better? Did he? Did he transcend the game nowadays? I just, I don’t even really think about stats. I just want to go out there and do my best every single play for the guy next to me.”
After briefly considering retirement, Kelce announced last week that he will return to the Chiefs for one more season, providing one more chance for him to add to his legacy.
