Red Sox Shockingly Predicted To Acquire $56 Million Ace In Star-Studded Trade Read more at:

The Miami Marlins completely gutted their roster ahead of the 2024 MLB trade deadline. The roster still has one star, though: Sandy Alcántara. Alcántara was the 2022 National League Cy Young winner, but he struggled a bit in 2023 and was injured for the entire 2024 season. This spring, the righty has looked like his old self and it’s only a matter of time before the Marlins trade him, too.

FanSided’s Jacob Mount recently pitched a blockbuster trade that would send Alcántara to the loaded Boston Red Sox. Here’s the full deal pitched by Mountz: Boston Red Sox receive: RHP Sandy Alcántara Miami Marlins receive: OF Wilyer Abreu, SS Marcelo Mayer (No. 3 prospect), SS/2B Mikey Romero (No. 11 prospect) “Normally, a player with a rookie campaign like Abreu’s would be a keeper,” Mountz wrote. “However, with Roman Anthony waiting in the wings, the Red Sox have some incentive to make changes in the outfield. Another outfield option is Kristian Campbell.

“Also leaving Beantown would be Marcelo Mayer. Currently Boston’s No. 3 prospect, Mayer is blocked from promotion by Boston’s packed infield. Mayer hasn’t yet played at the Triple-A level (despite promotion to Triple-A), but he has excelled in Double-A and is expected to make his debut this year. He is seen as an impact bat with decent power and a solid glove.”

This is quite a loaded return for the Marlins. It’s unknown whether the Red Sox would be willing to move Mayer alongside Abreu in order to acquire Alcántara, but this deal would certainly be good with the Marlins.

I find it unlikely that Boston would want to move their shortstop of the future alongside a promising young outfielder like Abreu. Additionally, Boston would be losing Romero, who’s another middle infield prospect, and this deal could be a hard no for the Red Sox.

However, the idea of the Red Sox trading for the Marlins’ ace makes a lot of sense. The details might need to be a bit different, though.
