More news: Giants Officially Re-Sign QB Ahead of Free Agency Brown finally made his regular season debut in Week 16, after missing most of the season due to his injury. He would appear in Week 16 and 17 games, posting 91 yards on nine receptions. Brown was meant to be a cornerstone offensive weapon for Patrick Mahomes, but the unfortunate training camp injury prevented him from being able to do so. The Chiefs would move forward with Xavier Worthy, and Juju Smith-Schuster, and eventually traded for DeAndre Hopkins.
Throughout the 2024 season, the Chiefs’ offensive was not as dynamic, and it could have been due to Brown not being in the lineup. Star running back Isiah Pacheco also suffered a broken leg, leading to him missing significant time. With the Chiefs missing two key offensive weapons, the team would win the majority of their games by one score or less. Despite the issues with injuries, Kansas City made it to the Super Bowl.
They were handily beaten by the Philadelphia Eagles, missing out on making history as the first NFL team to secure a three-peat championship run. It could have been the injuries that halted the team, or they were simply outclassed.
Either way, the Chiefs are heading back into 2025 with two offensive weapons in tow. Travis Kelce decided not to retire and announced he would return for at least one more season. Kansas City also has Brown back in the lineup, who could turn into a big weapon for Mahomes.
Brown was added to the Chiefs roster in the 2024 offseason from the Arizona Cardinals. He signed a one-year deal to prove he could still be a viable WR1 for Kansas City. Despite him missing most of the regular season due to injury, the Chiefs want to see what he can do by signing him for one more year. Should he have a breakout year while fully healthy, Brown might be awarded with a brand-new long-term extension.
