San Francisco 49ers’ $45M offer to Brock Purdy—Too high, too low, or just right?

San Francisco Reporter Confirms Brock Purdy's Stance on $45M Contract as Kyle Shanahan's 49ers Releases 2x Pro Bowler - EssentiallySports

The Niners empire is trying hard to keep their general (QB) Brock Purdy for the long run. Mr. Irrelevant has worked hard to prove his value to the franchise and the entire football world. But things have remained tough for the signal caller. He is now fighting an inside battle. The 49ers GM John Lynch and HC Kyle Shanahan have already clarified that they want to keep him. But also ruled out any guarantees. Most analysts have already put the ceiling on him. $60 million! But recent reports indicate a much lower tab on his value. It’s surprising.

Reports have come out of thin air that the Niners have offered a $45 million offer to their signal caller. That’s fairly below recent QB signings. The San Francisco Standard reporter, David Lombardi, also cleared the QB’s stance on the deal, and said, “I will say that Purdy will not sign for $45 million. Ultimately, this contract is going to be much more valuable than that and ultimately, we’re going to judge this contract by the structure and the full guarantees and not the apy.

Just last year, the Cowboys signed a 4-year $240 million deal with their QB Dak Prescott. And he hasn’t even been into the NFC Championship. In his rookie year, Brock Purdy had a clean slate with a 5-0 record, helping the Niners reach the NFC Championship. The second year was even more amazing.

The QB took them a step further, to Super Bowl LVIII in 2023 with a 12-4 record, where they lost to the Chiefs. Though this year saw a reversal with a 6-9 record in 15 games, that can be attributed more to the injuries in their camp. While the O-line missed Brandon Aiyuk, the defense lacked LB Dre Greenlaw. Overall, the QB hasn’t suffered any major injury in his career. And he is only 25 years old. So, there’s a lot more scope for improvement.

However, the 49ers GM isn’t convinced. They are totally into the rebuild zone, taking out anything that doesn’t fit into their perspective.

49ers GM to cut Brock Purdy’s teammate

It seems like they don’t even want to play with old players. Just days after trading the WR Deebo Samuel to the Commanders, they are ready for their next move. ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed that the front office has already informed their DT Javon Hargrave that they will cut him on Wednesday, March 12. That’s the first day of the new league year.

The 2-time Pro Bowler originally signed a 4-year $84 million deal in 2023. But they restructured his contract last year. That opened the doors for Brock Purdy’s teammate to be released this year. His season-ending injury could be the reason behind this move.

In 2024, Hargrave injured his right triceps during the week 3 game against the LA Rams. It ended his season as he underwent surgery. But, with his departure, the team will also need someone of his experience to fill the void. But there could be a twist. GM John Lynch has said that he could re-sign with the team. That’s interesting.
