Multiple Crochet fastballs against the Tampa Bay Rays clocked in at a blazing 101 mph on the JetBlue Park scoreboard, per MLB.com’s Ian Browne. However, Boston’s spring training home employs its own TrackMan device rather than Stacast to measure velocity, so it was fair to be dubious about Crochet’s triple-digit readings.
Even the star southpaw himself thought the numbers were a little off.
“I think that was a misread,” Crochet told reporters, per Browne. “I was feeling good, and I know it was coming out well, but I don’t think it was that well.”
Crochet obviously would have a better feel for his fastball than anyone else. And over 146 total innings with the Chicago White Sox last season, the 25-year-old only hit 100 mph on the radar gun for times.

So, now Crochet probably didn’t hit 101 mph multiple times Wednesday. But his vaunted heater is clearly in a great place, which bodes very well for both the Red Sox and their new frontline starter.
