Yankees’ updated top prospects list includes a new No. 2 prospect | Sporting News

The New York Yankees are gearing up to to defend their American League pennant for the first time in 15 years.

While the Yankees are hoping to make it back to the postseason after a brutal loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series, they will be doing so with an updated version of their top-30 prospects.

With spring training underway, MLB Pipeline released the top-30 prospect rankings for the Yankees, and it includes a slight change near the top.

Among the biggest changes to the list include the swap of Lombard and Jones at the No. 2 spot. The 19-year-old shortstop continues to impress with a strong spring outing that has included two home runs in the last two games.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old infielder Rodrick Arias moved down a few spots from his No. 4 ranking last season, and Schlittler finds himself surging up the list after not being ranked at all in 2024.

Both Hess and Cunningham, the team’s first two selections in the 2024 MLB Draft improved their ranking from last season.

When asked about hitters, Schwarber included, he said talks were “still pretty early,” noting that free agents are still “getting a feel for the market.” That honesty kept the reunion talk alive. Kyle Schwarber remains one of the few sluggers who proved he could supercharge the Red Sox’s lineup, and fans haven’t forgotten how quickly he changed the 2021 stretch run.
