49ers predicted to trade Brock Purdy to Titans in league altering blockbuster | Sporting News

The San Francisco 49ers already traded Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders. They could make an even more shocking trade to land the No. 1 overall pick.

The 49ers traded Deebo Samuel, per his request, to the Commanders for a fifth-round pick, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Their next priority will be deciding Brock Purdy’s future. General manager John Lynch noted after the season that they want Purdy as their quarterback for the future. However, his contract will be a hurdle that may be tough to cross. He could demand nearly $50 million and the team may simply not be able to afford him. TWSN’s Marissa Myers predicted the 49ers would opt to trade Purdy to the Tennessee Titans for the No. 1 overall pick.

“The San Francisco 49ers had choices to make regarding contracts,” wrote Myers. “Those choices included Trent Williams, Brandon Aiyuk, and Brock Purdy. They decided to extend Aiyuk on a four-year, $120 million deal, and Williams to a three-year, $82.69 extension. With limited cap space left, the decision to extend Williams over Purdy signifies that they want to keep their best offensive lineman, but also that they aren’t confident in Purdy yet to extend him. In addition, it appears as though the 49ers are looking to change their roster, and get younger for the future. With trading Deebo Samuel, and listening to trade talks for Aiyuk, Purdy could also be included to make sure the 49ers gain enough draft capital to achieve this.”

The 49ers roster is full of superstars that they have already committed to. However, extending Purdy could mean they will have to gut their roster moving forward. Purdy’s contract has allowed the 49ers to keep superstars around. Trading for the No. 1 overall pick and drafting a cheaper quarterback would allow the 49ers to keep their star-studded roster.
