From a Dallas perspective? If this DK Metcalf trade rumor is a viable idea for the Packers … why can’t it be a viable idea for the Cowboys?
FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys have come up short in their “draft and develop” plan at wide receiver outside of their rousing success with All-Pro pass-catcher CeeDee Lamb.

Maybe it’s time for Jerry Jones to go “wild-cattin” his way to a short cut to talent…

The Dallas front office has lost most of its goodwill with Cowboys Nation, and while no NFL team should make a move strictly due to the audience’s disgruntlement …

The quickest “splash” way to gain some credibility might also match the quickest “splash” way to improving the roster.

Which leads us to a series of rumors involving name receivers who might be on the move this offseason.

Cooper Kupp, Davante Adams and Deebo Samuel are among the names being bandied about in ways that are more than just rumor.

But there is also gossip – up until Friday nothing substantiated as more than that outside of FOX’s Jay Glazer sort of loosely saying Seattle might listen if offered a massive deal – in the form of the freakishly athletic Seattle Seahawks receiver D.K. Metcalf.

It is possible that the Seahawks are simply ready to turn the page on Metcalf, who has one year and $32 million remaining on his deal, while featuring Jaxon Smith-Njigba as the No. 1 guy.

And along with that number would likely come Metcalf’s request for an extension – a reasonable thought as he’s still only 27 years old. (He’s presently got a $31.8 million cap hit for 2025 … so a reworking would seen necessary.)

One report out of Green Bay suggests that the Packers are working on a trade with Seattle that would send out their No. 23 overall pick and either Romeo Doubs or Dontayvion Wicks in exchange for Metcalf.

From a Dallas perspective? If this is a viable idea for the Packers … why can’t it be a viable idea for the Cowboys?

This sort of trade would give Dak Prescott one of the league’s best receiver duos in CeeDee Lamb and Metcalf. … and it would also reunite D.K. with his first coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, who now happens to be the head coach in Dallas.

There is no set trade price here to go along with the gossip; we’d suggest there is no way Dallas would trade its No. 12 overall pick for Metcalf, seeing the better wisdom in simply using that selection to add “the next D.K.” … or somebody akin to that.

But generally speaking – while also acknowledging Cowboys Nation’s well-earned skepticism – the philosophy behind Dallas being aggressive “wildcatters” here is a valid one…
