Shreve, 34, joined Atlanta this offseason on a minor league deal. The left-hander had appeared in two games, pitching three innings while striking out three, walking one and allowing one hit.
The 11-year veteran has pitched in the majors with eight different organizations, including his MLB debut with the Braves in 2014. Shreve and Jake Diekman were brought in the add experienced depth behind fellow lefties Aaron Bummer and Dylan Lee. Angel Perdomo, who missed 2024 recovering from injury, likely has the inside track to be the third left-handed reliever to start the year in Atlanta.
Weems, a 32-year-old right-handed pitcher, also joined Atlanta on a minor league contract this past winter. He pitched the last three seasons with the Washington Nationals after making his MLB-debut during the 2020 season. Weems had appeared in two games, allowing a run in two innings, while striking out three batters but also walking three.
Both players may head to Gwinnett as depth at Triple-A.
These two movies bring the total number of players in camp with Atlanta down to 50.
