Cowboys insider reveals team likely to cut ties 4-time Pro Bowler | Sporting News

The Dallas Cowboys missed the playoffs last season and will make significant changes to their roster to stabilize their salary cap. One veteran player could be pushed out as a result.

DeMarcus Lawrence is a free agent and the Cowboys may not have the facilities to bring him back while also giving Micah Parsons a lucrative extension. The Dallas Morning News’ Calvin Watkins noted that the Cowboys will likely have to let Lawrence walk this offseason.

“For years he was considered the Cowboys’ best pass rusher and a strong run defender. When Parsons was drafted in the first round in 2021, it was a more than needed addition to the defense,” wrote Watkins. “Parsons is considered one of the best pass rushers in the NFL and is expected to get one of the largest contracts in franchise history. As for Lawrence, the desire to keep playing is strong and while he’s got a personal affinity for the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the business side of the NFL is leading him to play elsewhere.”

He is a four-time Pro Bowler and signed a three-year, $40 million deal in 2022. Lawrence, who played in just four games last season, has 61.5 career sacks and was named to consecutive Pro Bowls going into the season. However, a foot injury in a contract year may have made the Cowboys’ decision easier. He will be able to find a new home fairly easily as he is just one season removed from a Pro Bowl season.
