49ers announce new QB coach; hire John Lynch’s son to the coaching staff

The San Francisco 49ers announced several coaching staff moves on Tuesday afternoon.

Colt Anderson is the new assistant special teams coach. He spent 2024 with the Tennessee Titans, where he served as their special teams coordinator. Per DVOA, the Titans were the only team in the NFL with worse special teams last year than the 49ers. Anderson was the assistant special teams coach for the Cincinnati Bengals for the previous four seasons. He’s also an 8-year NFL veteran safety.

Gus Bradley’s official title is “Assistant Head Coach of Defense.” Bradley spent the three previous seasons as the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts and has several ties with Robert Saleh.

Ronnie Blair will go from working with the defensive line to the special teams. Blair used to cover kicks for the 49ers and played on each special teams unit.

Brian Griese is no longer the quarterbacks coach. Mick Lombardi now holds that title. Lombardi was previously the senior offensive assistant. He’s a former offensive coordinator with multiple years of experience coaching quarterbacks.

Saleh also brought on former Seattle Seahawks player and Jets assistant defensive line coach Greg Scruggs. He’ll work with the defensive line, likely replacing Blair.

Lastly, John Lynch’s son, Jake, is now a member of the 49ers coaching staff. His title is “Defensive Quality Control.” Lynch was a defensive graduate assistant for the University of Washington in 2024.

Here’s the full list of each coaching move:
