Nolan Arenado would still be available

The Cardinals seemingly appeared stuck with Arenado entering the season after an offseason filled with rumors. There’s one more suitor who could make sense to rescue the situation before the season.
The New York Yankees lost Juan Soto to their cross-town rival New York Mets and Giancarlo Stanton’s lingering elbow injuries leave his status in doubt for the start of the season. New York’s third base situation isn’t ideal, so adding Arenado to improve the defense and bolster the order could make sense for New York.
SNY’s Emmanuel Berbari and MLB analyst Jim Duquette backed that idea Tuesday on “Baseball Night In New York” and the latter suggested a potential trade framework based around Arenado going to New York and starting pitcher Marcus Stroman going to St. Louis.
It wouldn’t be the first time the Yankees added a third baseman who nearly joined the Red Sox in February. Just ask Alex Rodriguez.
