Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said last week that there would be a “feeding frenzy” across baseball if manager Aaron Boone were to hit the open market.

He believes other teams would pounce on an opportunity to hire Boone as their manager.

With Thursday morning’s news, no club will have that chance for the foreseeable future.

The Yankees announced that they signed Boone to a two-year contract extension through the 2027 season. This comes after the Yankees exercised Boone’s club option for the 2025 season this past November.

Boone is entering his eighth season at the helm in the Bronx this year. His 603-429 (.584) record is the second-best winning percentage among active managers behind Dave Roberts of the Los Angeles Dodgers (.627). Boone’s 603 wins are the seventh-most in Yankees history. He’s been subject to waves of criticism — for certain decisions along the way and the Yankees’ inability to get over the hump in October — but players adore Boone and the front office was clearly eager to keep him in pinstripes.

Boone had insisted recently, and since the Yankees’ World Series run last fall, that there is no other place he’d rather be. Over the offseason, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner vouched for the 51-year-old, saying there would be ongoing conversations to keep him around longer than the 2025 campaign. And Cashman has always spoken highly of Boone, recently praising the manager for his temperament and ability to handle the ups and downs of each season.

“You always want to have the guy for as long as you can have, as long as it’s warranted and it makes enough sense and they control the room and obviously do a great job,” Cashman said. “And I think [Boone] controls the room. He does a great job.”
