BREAKING NEWS: Pete Alonso hit in the face during spring training

Pete Alonso had a scare during a New York Mets practice at their spring training facility in Port St. Lucie, Fla., on Thursday.

Alonso was hit in the face by a ball and went down to the ground. SNY captured video of Alonso on the ground and shared it on social media. The Mets first baseman was able to get off the ground and walked into the dugout. He later rejoined the team on the field.

Mets reporter Anthony DiComo said Alonso went down during infield drills.

Alonso is back with the Mets after a shaky offseason that saw his free agency extend for three months before he signed. He ended up agreeing to a 3-year, $84 million deal that includes a player option after the first year.

Alonso has been an All-Star for three seasons running and four times overall during his career. He has a career .249 average with an .854 OPS. He enters the 2025 season needing 27 home runs to break Darryl Strawberry’s franchise record for home runs.
