Shannon Sharpe’s Response to Chiefs’ Reported Travis Kelce Move

Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs are heading into a critical offseason after a Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Kansas City capped off the season with a 17-3 record, getting blown out 40-22 by the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. Following the season, the Chiefs reportedly gave Kelce a deadline for his retirement decision. The 35-year-old tight end is coming off his 12th season with the organization.

While Kansas City received backlash for their decision to put a March 14 deadline on their superstar tight end, NFL legend Shannon Sharpe agrees with the move. Sharpe believes Kansas City should prioritize the betterment of the team and prepare for the future without Kelce. He explained that he’s “not surprised” by the decision to put a deadline on Kelce.

“Guess what happens in March,” Sharpe said, per Nightcap. “Free agency. I need to know, do I need to make a trade? Atlanta, can I get Kyle Pitts from you. I got to make a decision based on this football team. I can’t let this thing drag out…. Free agency. Let me evaluate. Let me look at some of these tight ends. The guy from Penn State, there are a couple of them… I’m not surprised at this at all.”

In the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss to the Eagles, Kelce posted 39 yards on four receptions. He finished the postseason recording one touchdown and 175 yards on 13 receptions.

The seasoned tight end capped off the regular season with three touchdowns and 823 yards on 97 receptions. While he’s been a vital piece of the Chiefs’ recent success, helping the franchise secure three Super Bowl titles since his arrival, Kelce’s future may soon be in jeopardy.
