The New England Patriots hold the No. 4 pick in this year’s draft, and everything is on the table except the quarterback position.
New England could take an offensive lineman or wide receiver to help their young quarterback, Drake Maye, or select a defensive piece for their new defensive-minded head coach, Mike Vrabel.
The Patriots could also choose a player who fits both the offensive and defensive sides, and that would be Colorado’s Travis Hunter.
Hunter played cornerback and wide receiver for the Buffaloes, winning the 2024 Heisman Trophy.
However, it will be difficult for the future rookie to play both sides of the ball in the NFL. There have been mixed opinions on which side of the ball Hunter would commit to at the next level.
On Thursday, the NFL Scouting Combine released a list of every player participating this year, and Hunter is listed as a cornerback.
If Hunter genuinely wants to play cornerback in the NFL, that could leave New England looking to select someone else at No. 4.
The Patriots already have a tremendous young cornerback in Christian Gonzalez, but they need to find someone who can help Maye on the offensive side.
Hunter could play a few snaps a game at wide receiver while playing cornerback full-time, but Maye needs an every-down wide receiver.
New England could benefit more from selecting offensive linemen like LSU’s Will Campbell or Arizona’s wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, who can impact almost every offensive play.
