The Cubs hold their first full-squad Spring Training workout

MESA, Arizona — Just as I pulled into the parking lot at the back fields at the Sloan Park complex Friday morning, it started pouring rain.

This is an unusual thing. The Phoenix area has had measurable rain only twice since last August, and while yes, this is a desert, that’s still pretty unusual (they should have had two or three inches of rain in that time frame).

Just as quickly as the heavy shower started, though, it ended and I headed into the fields to see what was going on.

There was again batting practice for catchers, but since I already saw that and shared video with you last Sunday, I didn’t really hang around for that.

Here’s video of some infield practice.

And, here’s video of pitcher fielding practice (or PFP, as it’s commonly known among MLB hurlers):

One thing is for sure. Someone on the Cubs coaching staff likes 70s and 80s music, particularly Led Zeppelin — you can hear Zeppelin in one of these videos, as well as the ones from last Sunday.

Here’s some other news from the first full-squad workout:

Seiya Suzuki said that Owner Tom Ricketts reminded players the importance of the Cub fans and represeting the team with the fans in mind.Ricketts spoke to the team before practice this morning. He has not had a media session as of yet.He will leave AZ today.

That’s all I’ve got to report to you at this time. We’re just six days away from the first Cubs spring game, vs. the Dodgers at Camelback Ranch next Thursday, and one week from today, Friday, Feb. 21, the same teams will meet at Sloan Park.
