Phillies’ uniforms looking good again in 2025 after Nike makes amends

The 2025 Major League Baseball season is quickly approaching with pitchers and catchers reporting this week. This represents the unofficial start to baseball season and all the excitement that comes with it.

Soon ballparks like Citizens Bank Park will be filling in with thousands of eager fans ready to start their journey of another season. There is serious hope for the Philadelphia Phillies and their chance in a stacked National League. Fans will not only be excited to see the sea of red at the stadium but also to see their old uniforms back.

Phillies’ uniforms looking good again in 2025 after Nike makes amends

An unfortunate storyline that started off 2024 was the changes that Nike made to MLB uniforms. Luckily, with enough scrutiny and blowback from players and the MLBPA, Nike has reverted back to their pre-2024 template (subscription required), according to Stephen Nesbitt of The Athletic. That means the return of the big letters on the back of jerseys again. The changes also include the return of tailored pants, heavier fabric and matching road grays with better sweat-wicking ability.

The old, but good jerseys made their first appearance on Wednesday, per Tim Kelly of OnPattison. The players and the MLBPA argued for the return of the 2023 uniforms shortly after the reveal of the Nike Vapor Premier debut in 2024. The initial issue was being unable to see the names on the nameplate, but overall poor manufacturing created other issues that forced Nike’s hand to change course.

The ability to see the Phillies players’ names will be refreshing to complete the aesthetic we all missed seeing on the baseball diamond last year. It will also fix the mismatched coloring of their cream alternate uniforms. The return of embroidered patches will also add some final touches to the red pinstripes and others this spring.

The correction is a win for players and fans alike. No known issues existed with Majestic’s uniform manufacturing until Nike took over in 2020. The uniforms were kept mostly the same until an initial try at the 2023 MLB All-Star game, but nothing could have prepared the Phillies and others for what storm was to come.

Nike has said they are looking to still implement upcoming changes in the coming seasons with their deal not concluding until after the 2029 season. Let’s just hope player consideration is considered before any other drastic changes take place in the future.
