The journeyman outfielder returns to Atlanta’s organization
The list of non-roster invitees for the Atlanta Braves expanded on Thursday afternoon after it was reported by Justin Toscano of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the Braves had brought in Jake Marisnick as a non-roster invitee. Marisnick is now the second outfielder to be invited to spring training by the Braves, since Conner Capel is already there.

Marisnick has been bouncing around organizations since his stint with the Houston Astros ended following the 2019 season. Since leaving Houston, Marisnick has been with the Mets, Cubs, Padres, Braves, Pirates, White Sox, Tigers, Dodgers, Angels and now the Braves again. This was after he was drafted by the Blue Jays in 2009 to start his career and then moved to the Marlins while he was rising up their organization. 2019 was also the last time that Marisnick finished a season with an fWAR at or over 1.0, so there’s that.
His stint with the Angels organization was different, as this was the first time where he spent the entire season in the minor leagues. Marisnick hit .283/.368/.551 for 12 home runs and 124 wRC+ over 54 games at the Triple-A level last season. For reference’s sake, Marisnick is a career .228/.281/.385, 89 wRC+ hitter at the major league level for his career.
It’s clear that this is an organizational depth move for the Braves, as it would really take an absolute banger of a spring training performance for Marisnick to make it onto the Opening Day roster. Still, he’s got as good of a chance as anybody and he’ll be coming to camp looking to make sure that he at least has an organization to call home for the 2025 season.
