The Kansas City Chiefs got dismantled in Super Bowl LIX by the Philadelphia Eagles, with the final score coming in at 40-22. While the Chiefs did not put their best foot forward, it wasn’t for a lack of effort, as a new clip showed Travis Kelce’s message to his teammates during this one-sided affair. Kelce, like virtually every one of his teammates, struggled against the Eagles, hauling in just four passes for 39 yards. After the game, with retirement rumors swirling around him, the legendary tight end kept it real when discussing how difficult it was to come up short in his biggest contest of the year.
“As you see yourself or not feel yourself have the success you once had, it’s a tough pill to swallow. For that not to be there in the biggest moments, knowing your team’s counting on you, those are all extremely hard things … It’s just a tough reality,” Kelce said on his “New Heights” podcast. Nothing went right for Kansas City against Philadelphia, as they were dominated from the opening kickoff. That didn’t stop them from fighting until the very end, with a new video surfacing that shows Kelce trying to motivate his teammates when they found themselves in a 27-0 hole early in the second half.
“Come on dogs, come on man. We all we got, man. Let’s go!” Kelce said while on the sidelines. In fact, if it weren’t for a pair of garbage-time touchdowns, this game would have been an even bigger blowout than it appears to be on paper. Losing is part of sports, and how Kansas City responds to this crushing defeat will be one of the biggest storylines of the upcoming campaign. Whether or not they have Kelce onboard, though, remains to be seen, as he could opt to call it a career this offseason.
