Cubs Manager Makes Bold Claim After Alex Bregman News

With one month left before the regular season commences, most teams across the league have fulfilled their offseason plans. The Chicago Cubs are still looking to add pieces to their roster to get them back into the playoffs for the first time in five years. They are reportedly a finalist to sign premier free agent Alex Bregman, per ESPN’s Buster Olney.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell has been fielding questions about the current roster ever since reporting to camp. The Athletic’s Patrick Mooney asked Counsell if he thought the Cubs were finished adding to their roster. Counsell stated, “No, we’re not done. I don’t think you ever consider yourself done building a roster. Whether big or small (moves), I don’t think you should consider yourself done. Especially on Feb. 11. I would say still always looking at options out there. Absolutely.”

They could look at adding veteran infielder and designated hitter Justin Turner on a shorter deal.

Furthermore, the Cubs might look at a potential bullpen option to supplement recent acquisitions Ryan Pressly and Ryan Brazier. While the Cubs are currently favored to win the NL Central, they are sixth in projected wins at 84.3(per Fangraphs). Adding some more pieces to their roster could put them in the conversation of the NL representative in the Fall Classic this year.
