Red Sox rumored to have deal in place to land $260 million dollar superstar if they cannot sign Alex Bregman | Sporting News

The Boston Red Sox haven’t done much this offseason, but they reportedly have a couple things ready to make at least one final splash. According to Sox insider Matt Couture, the Sox have a plan for a trade for St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado, if they don’t sign Alex Bregman.

“Per sources, The Red Sox and Cardinals have the structure in place on a deal for Nolan Arenado. The current hold is Alex Bregman. If the Red Sox do not land him, expect them to quickly turn to trading for Arenado.”

Currently, Bregman is reportedly set to sign soon. If the Sox don’t land him, it’s only a matter of time before a trade is done between St. Louis and Boston for Nolan Arenado, and hopefully a relief pitcher such as Ryan Helsley.

Either way, if either option happens, Sox fans will actually be happy that their organization actually made a move. Either move would solidify the Sox as a true playoff contender, ending their three-year stretch of mediocrity.
