She was supporting boyfriend Travis Kelce
Taylor Swift was at the Super Bowl last night, cheering on her boyfriend Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end.
It was a dismal night for Kelce, his quarter-back Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the Chiefs as the Philadelphia Eagles steam-rolled them to take victory 40-22.
The Chiefs were looking for the three-peat as they played their fifth Super Bowl in six years but as Kendrick Lamar took centre stage for his half-time show, Kansas City had yet to get a point on the board.
Swift, who was no stranger to the New Orleans Superdome stadium having sold out three shows there on her Eras Tour and setting an attendance and revenue record there, was subject to a surprising reaction from the fans inside the stadium.
Far from the screams of adoring fans, when Swift was shown on the jumbotron, she was subject to loud boos.
The 35-year-old, flanked by her friends Ice Spice and Ashley Avignone, didn’t seem to realise at first what was happening.
When it dawned on her she gave a wide side eye to her friends and pulled a slightly confused face before asking, “What is going on?”
The stadium was predominantly filled with Eagles fans – the team Swift grew up supporting, since she was raised in West Reading, Pennsylvania.
In her song Gold Rush she appears to give a nod to the newly crowned Super Bowl champions with the lyric: “I see me padding across your wooden floors, with my Eagles t-shirt hanging from the door.”
She clarified on tour: “I saw some people wondering if it was the band Eagles or the team Eagles. And I love the band Eagles, but, guys, come on, I’m from Philly, of course, it’s the team.”
Though Swift didn’t seem too frazzled by the reaction of the fans, sources close to Kelce say it affected the NFL star.
A source told the Mail: “Travis was aware of Taylor getting booed and he felt helpless. Seeing the look on her face got to him.”
Swift was further mocked on social media by President Donald Trump who was in attendance as he said: “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!”
However, Serena Williams who appeared during Kendrick Lamar’s half-time show, supported Swift on social media as she wrote: “i love you @taylorswift13 dont listen to those booo!!”
