The Kansas City Chiefs are elevating former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Steven Nelson from the practice squad to the active roster for the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Nelson was signed by the Chiefs earlier this season out of retirement to help boost an injured Chiefs cornerback room. Even though starter Jaylen Watson is back from a leg injury, Nelson could still give the Chiefs a nice piece to use on the outside.

Nelson started his career with the Chiefs. After leaving Kansas City, Nelson signed with the Steelers. He spent 2019 and 2020 with the team before heading to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021. Nelson will start on the Chiefs’ practice squad this time around and work his way up to the active roster.

The 31-year-old cornerback has 456 tackles and 13 interceptions over his ten-year NFL career. A third-round pick out of Oregon State by the Chiefs in the 2015 NFL Draft, Nelson has carved out a long and prosperous career for himself that he hopes can end with a ring this time around.
