Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes broke onto the football scene with a bang in 2017, when he was the first round draft pick for the NFL team. He became the starting quarterback for the Chiefs in 2018 before going on to become the league’s MVP that season. He led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl win just last February against the Philadelphia Eagles, clinching the MVP title again and celebrating the achievement of securing four Super Bowl appearances in the years he’s been with the Missouri team.
Considering all the success he’s had so far, it’s not surprising that Patrick and his team are making another Super Bowl appearance against the Philadelphia Eagles in 2025. Also not surprising? The fact that his wife (and his biggest fan), Brittany Matthews, will be there cheering him on from the sidelines.
Here’s a look at Patrick and Brittany’s sweet love story:
Patrick and Brittany met in high school.
Yes, Patrick and Brittany are high school sweethearts! The couple grew up in Whitehouse, Texas, where they both attended Whitehouse High School. They started dating when Patrick was a sophomore and Brittany was a junior, and they’ve been together ever since.
Brittany is also an athlete.
After graduating from Whitehouse High, Brittany went on to play soccer at the nearby University of Texas campus in Tyler. Upon completing her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, she signed on to play professional soccer for UMF Afturelding/Fram in Iceland. She won a league championship there before moving to Kansas City, where Patrick was living after being picked 10th by the Chiefs in the NFL draft, sometime in late 2017.
Brittany no longer plays soccer professionally, but she uses her athleticism in a new and different way: Also a certified personal trainer, Brittany sells workout programs on her website, Brittany Lynne Fitness.
Patrick and Brittany bought a house in Kansas City.
In 2019, Patrick and Brittany dropped $1.925 million on a home in Kansas City’s Mission Hills neighborhood. They renovated the home with the help of an interior designer — even adding a special closet for Patrick’s sneaker collection — and live there now with their two pit bulls, Steel and Silver.
“Setting down roots in Kansas City was huge for us,” Patrick told Bleacher Reporter during a video tour of his and Brittany’s home. “I think the people are what we love the most about Kansas City. We’re trying to be here for a long, long time.”
Brittany is Patrick’s biggest cheerleader.
It’s no secret that Brittany loves to cheer on her boyfriend’s team: She’s become known for live-tweeting every Kansas City Chiefs game from the sidelines and posting photos of her Chiefs-themed outfits to Instagram.
Patrick and Brittany got engaged in 2020.
The couple celebrated their eight-year anniversary in March 2020, and before the year was over, Patrick got down on one knee and proposed. There are varying reports on whether this happened in August or September, but it was confirmed that the special moment occurred following his Super Bowl ring ceremony at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium.
The bride-to-be shared the exciting news the next day on social media. “You made this day perfect, you took my entire breath away, and I could not have imagined anything better,” she captioned a set of Instagram photos. “I love you, forever and always! Cheers to spending our lifetime together and an inseparable bond 🎉🥂💕.”
Patrick and Brittany had their first child in 2021.
In September 2020, the two announced that they were expecting. On Instagram, Brittany posted a photo of herself holding an ultrasound image with Patrick behind her. She wrote: “Mom & Dad, taking a small detour to the wedding ❤️.” The Chiefs quarterback also posted a similar photo, simply captioning it: “❤️.’
In October, the couple revealed that they were having a baby girl, and they welcomed daughter Sterling Skye Mahomes on February 20, 2021.
Patrick and Brittany tied the knot in 2022.
The Kansas City power couple finally said “I do” a little over a year later on March 12, 2022, in Maui, Hawaii. Their daughter, who was over a year old at this point, served as one of the flower girls. Not only that, Sterling rode down the aisle in a toy car while wearing a dress mirroring her mom’s white Versace wedding gown. Close friend and teammate Travis Kelce (whose popularity has soared due to his relationship with singer Taylor Swift) was one of Patrick’s groomsmen. The couple then honeymooned in St. Barts.
Patrick and Brittany had their second child in 2022.
A few months later, on May 29, the newlyweds announced they were expecting their second child, a boy. Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III was born on November 28, 2022. Patrick opened up about fatherhood that year, saying that he plans to follow the patterns of his own parents and “stay out of the way” when it comes to things like his kids’ potential futures in athletics.
“I’m going to help teach my son, my daughter all the fundamentals and whatever they want to learn. But at the same time, I want to let it be about them,” he said on an episode of Football in America. “That’s what my dad did growing up, that’s what my parents did. They let it be about me, let me out there and have fun, they didn’t pressure me to do anything. I think that’s why I’m in the position I am today.”
Patrick and Brittany are co-owners of a sports team.
The following year, just a few weeks before Patrick and the Kansas City Chiefs took on the Philadelphia Eagles for Super Bowl LVII, Patrick joined his wife as a co-owner of the women’s soccer team the Kansas City Current. Brittany had been a co-owner since the creation of the team in 2020, and in January 2023, he became an investor.
Patrick and Brittany celebrated his second Super Bowl win.
Brittany cheered on Patrick after he led the Chiefs to victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII in February 2023, for the second Super Bowl win of his career. His first win was back in 2019 where he helped get the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl appearance in 50 years, later defeating the 49ers. He made another appearance with the team in 2021, but the Chiefs later lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
This celebration came a few days after Patrick and Brittany celebrated him being named the NFL’s MVP for the 2022-2023 season. In his acceptance speech, he couldn’t help but gush about his family.
“To my wife Brittany, my baby girl Sterling and my son Bronze, this crazy life that we are living means nothing without y’all, keeping me balanced, and making me appreciate every single day,” he said at the time. “No matter how I feel coming home, y’all bring me joy and make me appreciate the time that I get to spend with y’all. Thank you for always being there for me, through my good times and my bad. Love y’all.”
Brittany cheered on Patrick for the third time at the Super Bowl.
The Kansas City Chiefs played against the San Francisco 49ers in the 2024 Super Bowl, where Brittany appeared alongside Taylor on the sidelines. She also brought the couple’s children with her, and when Patrick clinched his third title in February 2024, she made sure to celebrate the news with a heartfelt Instagram post.
“This season was a special one!” she wrote at the time. “This guy never stopped believing in his team … He is a true leader and a team player. He continued to ask himself what he could do better to lead this team to the Super Bowl. I saw so much behind the scenes that I will forever be in awe of you as a person and a football player! You my guy deserved this!!! I love you and am always and forever proud of you❤️.”
Patrick and Brittany welcomed their third child in January 2025.
In July 2024, Patrick and Brittany announced they were expanding their family. Posting an Instagram video, Patrick and Brittany recruited Sterling and Bronze to help them adorably break the news. Six months later on January 12, 2025, the couple welcomed their third child, daughter Golden Raye Mahomes.
Brittany supported Patrick at the 2025 AFC Championship.
Just four days after giving birth to Golden, Brittany was back on the sidelines to cheer Patrick and the Chiefs on in the AFC Championship. The Chiefs later clinched the title against the Buffalo Bills, and they secured their place in the 2025 Super Bowl.
A week after the big win, Brittany went on Instagram to display her pride for her husband making it to his fifth Super Bowl (and his third in a row): “Here we go again 👏🏼💪🏼 so beyond proud of you 🥹🤍.”
