Boston Red Sox Showing Interest in $260 Million Future Hall of Famer

The Boston Red Sox have been looking to add a prominent hitter this offseason, and as Spring Training approaches, they could potentially do so by completing a trade.

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the Red Sox reportedly have been in contact with the St. Louis Cardinals about eight-time All-Star Nolan Arenado. This trade potential also has big implications across Major League Baseball regarding Alex Bregman’s free agency situation.

Arenado’s numbers have declined slightly throughout the last two seasons, but he is the exact type of model of consistency that Boston could use to strengthen their lineup, and hitting in Fenway Park could help the right-handed hitter.

The Red Sox also have a load of prospects they might be willing to give up, as Chaim Bloom said in Morosi’s report.

We’ve already seen Arenado excel when he plays in a hitter-friendly park like Coors Field during his time with the Rockies. He has led MLB in home runs in three seasons of his career and has a lifetime .857 OPS.

With some turmoil in St. Louis with the Cardinals in the last couple of seasons, Arenado is the exact piece the Red Sox should want to take a chance on if they intend to compete now.

Arenado also has a no-trade clause, which means the 33-year-old with 341 career home runs would have to agree to be traded to Boston.

He has also already informed the Cardinals that he is willing to agree on a potential trade if he sees fit.
