Chicago Cubs Need To Address This Key Position Before the Season

There have been potential rumors surrounding the Chicago Cubs potentially landing slugger Pete Alonso this offseason. Still, lately, it seems that the Cubs will stick with their budding star, Michael Busch, who had a breakout season last year. With Seiya Suzuki being the team’s full-time designated hitter, if he is to stay on the roster and Chicago misses out on Alonso, they will have to address a slight need at first base.

Busch showed his strong defense all season last year and the ability to hit for power, so there’s no question Chicago feels comfortable with him at the position. However, he is currently the only true first baseman on the roster, and if he were to get injured and miss time, the Cubs could be in a challenging position. The Cubs recently signed Jon Berti and Nicky Lopez, but they are more likely to see time at other positions in the infield. A potential option could be remaining free agent Justin Turner, a viable veteran hitter.
